Hosting our first Thanksgiving is in the books! Everything went off without a hitch. The food and company were all incredible. I hope your Thanksgiving was packed with amazing things, as well!
One of the fun little touches I added to our day was to let homemade potpourri simmer quietly in a crock pot. Oh my goodness, you guys, why haven’t I ever done this before?! It was like autumn itself was oozing out of that tiny corner of my counter. You have to give this a try. It’s so inviting and there are times when it’s not possible to invite the smells in from outside, so this recipe is perfect for creating it naturally!
WHAT IS POTPOURRI?
Potpourri is an easy way to create an inviting scent into your home. It can be dried and emitted in an open space in your home. In this potpourri recipe, simply simmering a mixture of fresh ingredients over a low heat does the trick. Fresh and dried fruits, cinnamon sticks and spices, plant materials and sometimes essential oils will transform the scents in your home!

Gather all of the ingredients, then place all ingredients into a small slow cooker. Cover and cook for 2 hours on High heat.
Uncover, set on counter and your home will smell amazing for HOURS! Add water as needed and stir occasionally.

HOW LONG WILL FALL SCENTED POTPOURRI LAST?
This is a mixture of ingredients that are good for the day. After placing the ingredients in the slow cooker and submersing them in water, the heat will use up all the scent from the pieces for about 4-6 hours, maybe longer. Be sure to toss out the used remnants. To recreate the aroma, another batch of fruits, spices and plants should be put together.
I love this version of an air freshener because I know exactly what’s in my pot or slow cooker. No chemicals and all delicious smelling ingredients I typically keep on hand. I hope you love it, too!
