WHY MAKE THIS RECIPE?
3 tbsp Olive oil
1/2 Yellow onion
4 Cloves garlic
1/4 c Fresh basil
1 tsp Onion powder, dried oregano, sugar, salt & pepper
28 oz Whole tomatoes
28 oz Crushed tomatoes
6 oz Tomato paste
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and cook until soft and fragrant, about 3 minutes.
Next add fresh basil, oregano, sugar, salt and pepper and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
Add whole tomatoes, crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Use a potato masher to break down the whole tomatoes just a bit.
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to medium-low and simmer for 20 minutes.
Add a few teaspoons of red pepper flakes or additional black pepper for an added touch of spice.
