Equipment

Ingredients

  • 10-12 medium apples peeled and cored
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • Juice from 1/2 a lemon

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a crockpot. Cook on high for 5 hours, stirring occasionally. Cover and refrigerate and use within 2 weeks.

Notes

I keep my applesauce spiced very simply but if you love more complex flavors, you could add a little of each of the following (no more than 1/2 teaspoon each): nutmeg, pumpkin spice, allspice and cloves.
I used a potato masher to make the mixture a little less chunky after it’s done cooking down. An immersion blender or blender to puree the sauce would make the consistency even smoother.
