To change it up, here are some great optional add-ins: toss in sliced red or green grapes; instead of just tart green apples throw in one sweet red apple; a 1/4 cup of shredded coconut would be delicious too!
Feel free to drizzle salted caramel sauce over the top!
Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the apples to keep them from browning.
Granny smith apples are my FAVORITE variety of apple to use in this recipe, but any firm variety tastes great.
