Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1-2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil or canola oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 8 oz mushrooms sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper finely chopped
  • 2 chicken breasts cut into bite-size chunks
  • White rice and sesame seeds for serving

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine hoisin sauce, soy sauce, ginger and red pepper flakes. Mix well and set aside.
  • Heat the sesame (or canola) oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and cook for 2 minutes, stirring. Add the mushrooms and red bell pepper and cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until veggies are soft. Add the chicken pieces and cook for 6 minutes, or until meat is cooked through.
  • Add the hoisin mixture to the skillet and heat until warmed through. Serve over rice and sprinkle with sesame seeds just before serving!

Notes

  • Hoisin sauce is traditionally used as a Chinese dipping sauce.
  • It is the delicious sauce you’ll find in most moo shu pork recipes, if you’ve ever tasted that deliciousness.
  • It can be tossed with any meat and veggie in stir-fry and can also be used as a dipping sauce for dumplings or potstickers.
