Don’t use any old chili recipe to pile on top of hot dogs. This delicious recipe details how to make hot dog chili sauce so the consistency is just right!
INGREDIENTS
2 lbs ground beef30 oz tomato sauce1/2 c water6 oz tomato paste2 tbsp pickle juice2 tbsp ketchup1 tbsp brown sugar1 tbsp mustard1 tbsp Worcestershire1 tbsp chili powder1 tsp garlic powder1 tsp onion powder1 tsp cumin1 tsp paprika1 tsp red pepper flakes1/2 tsp celery salt1/2 tsp salt and pepper
STEP 1
Fill a Dutch oven or large heavy-duty saucepan one-third full of water and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and mash with a potato masher as it cooks, until it is cooked through
STEP 2
Add beef to a colander and drain water.
STEP 3
Return beef to pan. Add the rest of the ingredients to the pan and bring to a boil over medium heat.
Reduce to medium low heat and simmer for 1 hour. Stir occasionally with a silicone or wooden spoon to avoid scorching.
STEP 4
Serve on top of your hot dogs that have been placed inside hot dog buns. Top with onions and shredded cheddar cheese, if desired!
STEP 5
Spice up this chili sauce by adding any of the following: extra red pepper flakes, hot sauce or diced jalapeno peppers.
