WHY MAKE THIS RECIPE?

Try my mother’s handwritten recipe from childhood. It was my guide for this recipe. I don’t remember ever eating a meatloaf as good as hers. Many people in my audience agree!

STEP 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a 5×9 loaf pan with cooking spray and set aside.

STEP 2

Combine the beef, crackers, egg, milk, ketchup, onion and spices. Mix together with your hands until thoroughly combined.

STEP 3

Pour the mixture into the. Place the pan on a rimmed baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 1 1/2 hours.

In a small bowl, combine ketchup, brown sugar, apricot preserves and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well.

STEP 4

Spread half of the mixture evenly over the meatloaf halfway through baking.

STEP 5

Let meatloaf sit for 15 minutes before slicing and serving. Use the remainder of the sauce for dipping/topping.

RECIPE NOTE

Be careful not to over mix! Mix until all ingredients are just combined. Over-mixing can create a different, denser texture.
