It’s 5 pm and your block of ground meat is totally frozen. Don’t worry, this Instant Pot Frozen Ground Beef recipe is here to save the day and your dinner plans! Just add a little water and the frozen block of beef to your IP and put your mind at ease. With no thawing needed, it's perfect for busy days!
Place a trivet into an Instant Pot and pour the water into it. Place the frozen ground beef on top of the trivet.
Place the cover on the pot and set the timer to 20 minutes on high pressure (pressure cook setting). It will take the IP around 10 minutes to build up pressure before it begins cooking.
If using thawed ground beef: Set the timer to 6 minutes on high pressure (pressure cook setting).
When cooking time is done, let the pressure release naturally for 5 minutes. Perform a quick release to get rid of remaining pressure. Let the float valve drop and remove the cover.
Remove the trivet from the pot and set on a cutting board. Drain water from the pot. IF BEEF IS STILL PINK: Press the saute button and add the ground beef back to the pot to finish cooking. Break up the beef with a spoon as it cooks. Use spices as desired. When the meat is no longer pink, it is done.

Notes
For best results, freeze meat in a flat, even shape. It cooks more evenly this way.
Don’t forget to place the trivet on the bottom of the Instant Pot between the meat and the liquids.
Avoid stacking multiple pounds at once. Cook in batches if needed.
If using lean beef (90% or higher), you may need less cooking time to evaporate moisture.
Don’t skip draining the excess liquids if using higher fat content beef to prevent greasy results.
