Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 yellow or white onion sliced
  • 8 oz mushrooms sliced
  • 4 hamburger buns with sesame seeds
  • 4 tbsp ketchup
  • 4 tbsp mustard
  • 4 leaves iceberg lettuce
  • 4 slices tomato
  • 16 slices pickles
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise

Instructions

  • Light a grill over medium heat or heat a skillet over medium-high heat with a drizzle of olive oil. Divide the ground beef into four equal portions. Roll each section into a round shape.
  • Place the ground beef rounds on the grill or in the skillet and press down slightly on each, flattening them. Cook for approximately 5 minutes per side, or until the internal temp reaches 160 degrees F.
  • While the burgers are cooking, melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the onion slices and mushrooms and cook for 5 minutes, or until fragrant and golden brown. Transfer the veggies to a bowl or work surface. Do not clean out the skillet.
  • Place the cut sides of the buns face down in the hot skillet for 1 minute. Transfer to work surface.
  • Assemble each burger: Bottom bun with 1 tbsp each of ketchup and mustard spread on it, 1/4 of the mushroom-onion mixture, burger, 1 lettuce leaf, 1 tomato slice, 4 pickle slices, top bun with 1 tbsp mayo spread on it.

Notes

  • Serve immediately after assembling in order to enjoy the freshest, most delicious burger possible!
  • Serve with a batch of homemade french fries for a more authentic Five Guys meal.
  • If you do not want a version with typical toppings (like at the restaurant), cook the burger/bun in the same fashion. Here are a few ideas for extra toppings: hot sauce, green peppers, jalapeno peppers, crispy bacon, A1 sauce, sauteed veggies, a slice of cheese, bbq sauce or salsa.
  • If creating a cheese burger, use American cheese slices and place them on the bottom bun or in the middle of the burger if you're doing double stacks.
  • Store leftover burgers in an airtight container or wrapped in aluminum foil for up to 3 days in the fridge.
