In order to give these TO-DIE-FOR Chocolate Caramel Brownies a chance to shine, new photos have been taken and the post has been resurrected! Brought back from the dead right before your hungry, caramel-loving little eyes.

This is my favorite brownie recipe of all time. I’ve been making these babies for years. They are super easy and people are constantly knocking down my door for the recipe. Or at least they should be. Unless they have a computer, in which case they can just find it here.

If you like to sneak veggies into your kids treats because they’ll never know, you won’t want to skip making these Easy Zucchini Brownies. The veggies are perfectly hidden!

WHY I LOVE THIS RECIPE

I have all the ingredients most of the time to make cake or brownies but there’s something so simple about using a cake box mix to whip up a batch of brownies. Box cakes go on sale regularly for a dollar and at that price, I can easily add a little something extra to make these over the top delicious!

HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE CARAMEL BROWNIES

You’ll enjoy every bite of this easy recipe using a cake mix to make the most perfectly chocolate-caramely treat!

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9×13 baking pan and set aside.

In a large bowl, combine the German chocolate cake mix, melted butter, 1/3 cup evaporated milk and vanilla extract. Mix well and spread half of the batter into prepared pan, pressing with fingertips.

Bake in preheated oven for 8 minutes.

Caramel ingredients in saucepan ready for melting

In a medium saucepan, melt caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk over low heat, stirring constantly, until smooth. You can also use a microwave safe bowl with these ingredients.

Sprinkle semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly over the partially cooked brownies. Pour the melted gooey caramel mixture evenly over the top of the chips.

Drop the remaining batter over the top in clumps by the spoonful (it will not completely cover caramel). Bake for an additional 20 minutes.

Let cool before cutting into squares. Top with a scoop of ice cream to make these even more decadent!

RECIPE NOTES FOR CHOCOLATE CARAMEL BROWNIES

  • Sprinkle chopped pecans in the middle of the brownies over the chocolate chips for a turtle-like brownie treat.
  • After you pour the caramel over the brownies, sprinkle some sea salt over the top!
  • Devil’s Cake is a great option to use in place of German Chocolate Cake mix.

WHY USE A CAKE MIX vs BROWNIE MIX

This cake is delicious! A few extra ingredients gives it a texture more similar to brownies but tasty ingredients we’ve added will be worth shaking things up!

HOW TO STORE BROWNIES

You can enjoy these warm out of the oven. If they last the day, place them in an air-tight container on the counter for 5 days.

CAN YOU FREEZE CARAMEL BROWNIES

Yes! Make a batch for another day or to bring them to a gathering. Once you bake the brownies, let them cool to room temperature. Wrap them in plastic wrap and double wrap with aluminum foil.
