Mint Juleps are the official drink of the Kentucky Derby! Minty, satisfying and refreshing!

I visited Washington DC for my very first time this week. Yesterday after attending a super awesome conference for small digital publishers, I quickly and eagerly lugged my large backpack along the north side of the DC Mall before heading to the airport. My flip-flops and I walked over 2 miles and absorbed the Capitol, the Washington Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial after spending the entire day walking through the halls of Congress lobbying for small publishers. It was a QUICK, invigorating whirlwind of a trip. I’m so glad I went. If you haven’t visited the nation’s capitol, you should! Wow!

This drink has absolutely nothing to do with any of this except that I’m really late in posting an American favorite, the official drink of the Kentucky Derby! Dan has been bugging me for years to put this on my website. Here it is, my friends, the delicious Mint Julep! Making a Simple Syrup at home is much more affordable and efficient than going the store-bought route.

Dan likes to sprinkle confectioners’ sugar over the top for an added touch of sweetness. Cater this to your liking (I tend to like more sugar, personally!). Don’t limit this to Derby week, friends. It is a delicious all-season beverage.

Have a great week, friends. I’m off to relax for a bit before bed! Enjoy this delicious beverage!

Be sure to check out my Pink Lily recipe, too, for another delicious Derby drink favorite!

Yum, I’ll take one of these right now! It reminds me of the year I spent living in Atlanta. Looks delicious!
