This Halloween Snack Mix is a fun addition for any and all fall or Halloween parties, or just as a yummy snack to have on hand. It only needs 6 ingredients and 5 minutes to make the perfect combination of flavors and is so festive kids and adults love it, but around this time of year, who can tell who’s who?

Why You’ll Love This Halloween Party Snack Mix

    • 🎃 So Magical – Halloween season has always had a hold on me. The costumes, candy, spooky stories and pumpkin carving never get old. I love building and sharing these memories with my boys. This mix ties right into that tradition.
    • 👻 So Simple – The easiest Halloween-themed snack or appetizer you can make. No butter, gooey ingredients, or baking.. just dump, mix and go!
    • 🍂 So Festive – Every fall we make a big batch, curl up for our favorite movies and it becomes part of our seasonal ritual. Guests swoon every time too. Kids and adults both love this festive snack mix at parties or potlucks.
    • 🍬 So Tasty – A sweet-and-salty combination that’s just plain delicious. Minimal effort, handful of ingredients, maximum flavor. The perfect snack while decorating for the best holiday of the year!

    Halloween Mix Recipe Ingredients

Note that for all ingredients, bag sizes listed in the recipe card may vary and don’t matter a ton. Just get approximate similar sizes. I’ve also included additional add-ins and dairy free alternatives in the sections below.

Bagged goodies, ready to be thrown into a batch of Halloween snack mix.

Salty pretzels – Using mini pretzels helps to keep the size of the snack mix uniform. However, if you have other types of pretzels on hand, use them up to get that salty crunch!

Original Bugles – Bugles are a fun crunchy snack that you can find in your chip aisle at the grocery store. If you can’t find them, you can use chex mix or Fritos in place of them.

Caramel corn – Any sort of popcorn will work in this recipe. If you keep kettle corn on hand, that will work in the sweet/salty mix as well.

M&M’s – Have a favorite flavor of M&M’s? Whether it’s peanut, caramel, or a newly put out flavor, like Halloween M&M’s, you can toss them in.

Autumn mix candy corn – This mix by Brach’s candy offers classic candy corn, pumpkins and chocolate candy corn. It’s a fun colorful mix but can be replaced with just candy corn if you like.
Salted peanuts – Keep the salty portion of the mix alive with yummy salted peanuts or honey roasted peanuts as another great option.

How to Make an Easy Halloween Snack Mix

One of the many best things about this easy recipe is how quickly it comes together. Just dump and go. Combine all your ingredients in an extra large bowl (or divide between two bowls) and mix everything well before serving!

Optional Add-Ins to Personalize Your Snack Mix

There are so many fun add-ins you can include to create your own family favorite Halloween mix. Throw in some candy eyes or small gummy worms for fun or add some dried fruits and chopped nuts for a healthier version.

I’ve also broken this into sections that identify dairy inclusive vs dairy free ingredients, but allways be sure to read the package ingredients to be sure.

    Ingredients That Contain Dairy

    • Caramel corn – Often made with butter, so usually not dairy-free unless labeled as such
    • M&M’s – all varieties contain milk. As do Reese’s Pieces
    • Raisinets, Rolos, and Peanut Butter Cups all contain milk
    • Chocolate chips usually contain milk unless labeled as dairy free or vegan, but my local store brand of semi-sweet chocolate chips contains no dairy and is a lot cheaper, so check.

    Almost Always Dairy-Free

(but always check labels to be sure, since brand ingredients vary):

    • Chex cereal – Corn, Rice, and Wheat Chex are typically dairy-free, but always double-check (especially flavored ones).
    • Plain raisins, Craisins, and other dried fruit are almost always dairy-free.
    • Mini marshmallows
    • Nuts – just watch for candied or chocolate-coated versions. And some roasted varieties add milk powder.
    • Regular popcorn – Plain or lightly salted is usually dairy-free. Avoid buttered varieties. Ironically though, the Butter Lovers variety microwave popcorn from Act II is actually dairy free.
    • Candy corn and candy pumpkins – usually dairy free but some brands contain milk solids. Read the package ingredients
    • Pretzels – Many are dairy-free, but some brands sneak in butter or milk powder.
    • Bugles corn chips – Original Bugles don’t list dairy among the ingredients, but they do add a “may contain” warning to their label. You can use original Fritos corn chips as a good sub.

    Dairy-Free Party Mix Additions

    • Vegan chocolate and white chocolate chips (Enjoy Life or Hu are good brands. Also check your local store brand.).
    • Pumpkin seeds (pepitas) – roasted & salted or even spiced.
    • Sunflower seeds – adds the perfect mix of crunchy and nutty
    • Assorted nuts
    • Banana chips – or other dried sweet treats like dried apple rings, mango, or cranberries add a great chewiness.
    • Coconut chips or flakes

For a dairy-free alternative to M&Ms, consider brands like No Whey Foods, UNREAL Chocolates, and YumEarth.

How to Store Fall Snack Mix

Store your ultimate Halloween trail mix in an airtight container or large mason jar at room temperature for a couple weeks as you enjoy it.
