    Why This Recipe Works

    • This is the easiest way to avoid overcooked eggs or eggs with green ring around your yolks.
    • The stove top method produces consistent results, but this is the easiest method for easy-peel perfection. Easiest peeling you’ll ever experience!
    • Make a batch of hard boiled eggs for meal prep to start the week! Hard-cooked eggs are a healthy snack or easy breakfast on the go.
    • Perfectly consistent bright yellow yolks every single time!
    • This easy peel method is a game changer for you egg lovers. Perfect eggs, perfect egg yolks, hits the sweet spot.

How To Make Easy Peel Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs

    Step 1

Pour 1 cup of water into Instant Pot and add trivet. Set 6 eggs (or as many or as few as you’d like, up to a dozen) on top of the trivet (or steamer rack/steamer basket).

Eggs sitting on a trivet inside an Instant Pot.

Lock cover into place and set steam release valve to Sealing.

Fingers moving steam release valve on an Instant Pot to sealing.

Select the Pressure Cook mode and set pressure level to Low Pressure. Set cook time to 12 minutes.

It will take a few minutes for the Instant Pot to build up pressure and then the timer will begin. During the last few minutes of cook time, fill a medium bowl with cold tap water and throw some ice cubes into the mix.

    Step 2

When the timer beeps, turn the steam release valve to Venting (do a quick release) to release the rest of the pressure and wait for the silver float valve to drop. Immediately remove cover and place the eggs into the ice water for 1 minute.

Spoon dropping an egg into an ice bath.

Remove the eggs from the ice bath and peel off eggshells. Serve immediately or store in a sealed container in the refrigerator.

What Types of Eggs to Use

Any variety of egg can be used for this recipe. Brown eggs, white eggs, farm-fresh eggs, large eggs, small eggs, they all will work great!

How Many Eggs Can You Cook in the Instant Pot at One Time

You can cook as few as one and as many as twelve eggs at a time in the Instant Pot, or any number in between. The pressure cooker works some serious magic because regardless of the number of eggs, they always turn out perfectly!

Hands peeling a hard boiled egg.

How to Peel Hard Boiled Eggs

One of the best things about making Instant Pot hard boiled eggs is that the shells come off perfectly! Lightly tap the egg on a counter or hard surface once you remove it from the ice bath.

Peel at the crack and the egg shell will literally fall off into your hands. Once the peel is off, rinse the egg under cold water.

How to Store Hard Boiled Eggs

Hard boil eggs and allow them to cool to room temperature. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to seven days (see below for details) for best results.

How Long Do Hard Boiled Eggs Stay Fresh

My rule of thumb for hard-boiled eggs is this:

    • If eggs are peeled immediately after being cooked, they will remain fresh in the fridge for 5 days.
    • Unpeeled eggs will stay fresh in the fridge for 7 days.

Ways to Eat Hard Boiled Eggs

    • Enjoy solo with a little salt and pepper
    • Throw them into Buddha Bowls
    • Add them to Egg Salad Sandwiches
    • Perfect for your next batch of Potato Salad
    • Throw them into a leafy salad

How to Reheat Hard Boiled Eggs

The best method for reheating the eggs is to heat a large bowl filled with 3 cups of water in the microwave for 2-3 minutes. Drop hard boiled eggs into the hot water and let sit for a minute or two. Remove, peel and enjoy!

Avoid microwaving eggs that have been hard-boiled or they may explode.

Hand holding up a hard boiled egg with a bite taken out.

    Must-Try Instant Pot Recipes

The list of foods you can cook and the many ways you can cook food in an Instant Pot is endless! It can act as a slow cooker, skillet, steamer, rice maker, yogurt maker and pressure cooker.

It can cook soup, chili, pasta, meat, potatoes, veggies, cake, beans and so much more. Here are a few of my favorite Instant Pot recipes:

    • Perfect Instant Pot Chicken Breasts
    • Steamed Artichokes
    • Mashed Potatoes
    • Chicken Noodle Soup

Instant Pot Eggs By the Minute

See the image below for a visual pressure cooker egg cook time guide, from 6 to 13 minutes (ranging from soft boiled eggs with jammy yolks all the way to perfect hard boiled eggs).

Wow. That would be really useful since my eggs come out different every time I make them on the stove. I think the heat is pretty uneven with my elements.

I’ve never used any type of pressure cooker and have been toying with the idea of getting one ever since Christmas. Eggs in a pressure cooker! What a fun new adventure in cooking!

What an awesome appliance. I would love to have a new modern pressure cooker. My last one was a gift at my wedding, about 45years ago. WOW have they come changed. My grandmother gave me one and as she told me how to use or rather what NOT to do with the pressure cooker it became a very scary appliance. I used it to can peaches. I always envisioned peach juice from ceiling to floor if it ever exploded–as quite a few did in those days. It was very heavy and had a little piece on top that giggled and spewed steam. You had to make sure it jiggled just right. How nice it would be to own a new modern one.
I love your blog and have tried numerous recipes and tips–always sharing with friends and family as they always ask where I got that recipe.

Have heard so many good things about Instant Pot, have put it on my list to get…maybe Mother’s Day? yeah right will get a handprint card and poem….which I will, love, don’t get me wrong. maybe my birthday? yeah right, husband will forget it until I remind him the morning of and he buys me lunch or dinner or both, which I will also love, but you see where I am going with this, finding it on my doorstep may be the only way to get this crossed of my wish list 🙂

My husband is retiring, and we just bought our first motor home! We’re ready to hit the road, and this pressure cooker will be so helpful! We like to KISS (Keep it Super Simple) while we camp, and I can’t think of a better way than with an Instant Pot. All my nieces have one, and rave about it all the time! Thanks you!

Great post! Wow I didn’t know this lifesaver pressure cooker existed!!!! I’m kind of new at "liking to cook" just because I never considered myself a good cook, (not just me but I’m pretty sure there was a reason people didn’t eat my food at potlucks :-S)… but posts like yours are the ones that have planted a feeling that says "yes I can" cook well! I have improved so much and though I still have long way to go, these little progresses make me feel really good… Thanks for sharing your kitchen secrets! [email protected]

I’m really intrigued by the Instant Pot. I’ve always been hesitant of pressure cookers b/c as a kids my mom fixed greens on NYE in our old school cooker (think meal with the spinning top) and it exploded when she opened it. Greens were EVERYWHERE–yes on the ceiling, too. However, this Instant Pot seems a little more controlled. I’d love to win one and get over my fear of flying greens.

We LOVE hardboiled eggs but our chicken and duck eggs are so fresh that they don’t peel easily. I have tried everything including an egg piercer! I would love to have a pressure cooker to make fresh hardboiled eggs a breeze. Plus your drawing is the day after my 40th birthday so I think it is destiny…and I adore the recipes you post on p&e! Thank you, Jen

      1. I recently had some lab results advising that I have a casein sensitivity, so I’ve been trying to go dairy free which is so hard bc I love cheese…but I also love eggs and can still have them! Plus I’m trying to eat more healthy fats and eggs each morning are perfect for that. I don’t have a pressure cooker but I’ll definitely have to research them now. ?

Thank you for posting a picture of the Instant Pot. I had not heard of it until recently when I started seeing Instant Pot recipes on various sites. Boiling eggs the old fashioned way is usually hit or miss and trying to peel them is a whole other story. I’ve never had a pressure cooker and would really enjoy trying and experimenting with new recipes. Thanks for your great recipes and the chance to win!

I am a sucker for cooking food in its own juices/fats without adding any additional liquid and a PC is ideal for that…Plus having to feed a large family with time constraints, can’t think of a better option than this gorgeous beauty! I need this in my life and your giveaway will be a blessing!!

I should be the proud owner of the pressure cooker because of all the ways I could have my eggs prepared: boiled, poached, fried, scrambled, or fertilized – I think pressure cooked might win over them all. But I’ll never know. Unless you make the hope real.

On another note: hard/soft boiled eggs are amazing, and such a gift – did you know eggs are the most nutritious food per gram? Miraculous. Also I’m getting married and I need kitchen appliances. And I need a way to make him eggs everyday because I lost a bet once.
      The end.

We were literally just talking about this pot! I can’t wait to see all the recipes you come up with using it!!
Mostly, i should be the winner because I literally can’t even boil eggs–i boil them until they start splitting open (which is then how i know they’re done!)
Feel free to share that cooking tip!!?

I’ve been hearing all about this & how I really need to purchase one. My friend who got Es dog for him keeps telling me of quick & easy meals she’s prepared to encourage me. She knows I’m a penny pincher & just need some time to think over the purchase. I have started, although be grudgingly to prepare some simple meals at home & from everyone’s raves this would encourage me to do that more often for E & I. If I win I hope you’ll share more ideas to fix in it!
