Original post: April 2015 | Updated: August 2020

I brought this dessert to a family dinner recently and we couldn’t collectively decide if it tasted more like the buster bar or the peanut buster parfait.

Since gooey, un-frozen fudge is not involved, I decided that Buster Bar Ice Cream Cake best suits its yumminess.

This frozen cake is the perfect dessert to bring to any dinner or party, especially if you have a kid to win over. Not only is it visually appealing, the flavors and textures will WOW everyone.

Taking a bite is like taking a step back in time, enjoying a Dairy Queen Buster Bar as a kid.

HOW TO MAKE BUSTER BAR ICE CREAM CAKE

Prepare a family size brownie mix in a 9×13 inch pan according to package directions. Evenly spread the vanilla ice cream over the brownies and sprinkle a layer of peanuts over the ice cream layer. Place the pan in the freezer.

Peanuts on top of ice cream layer in pan

In a saucepan over medium-high heat, melt the butter, powdered sugar and evaporated milk. Add chocolate chips and bring mixture to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened.

Remove from the heat and add vanilla. Let cool for 10 minutes and pour evenly into the pan from freezer. Freeze for 1 hour.

Cool Whip spread over frozen dessert in a baking pan

Spread the whipped topping evenly over the top. Cover with foil and freeze for a minimum of 4 hours.

RECIPE NOTES FOR BUSTER BAR ICE CREAM CAKE

    • Omit the peanuts entirely for a nut-free dessert.
    • Be sure to freeze for the full 4 hours to avoid a sloppy dessert.
    • Top with chocolate chips, peanuts, hot fudge topping and/or cherries before serving, if desired!

CAN I USE HOMEMADE WHIPPED CREAM FOR BUSTER BAR ICE CREAM CAKE

Absolutely yes! If desired, replace Homemade Whipped Cream with the Cool Whip whipped topping called for in the recipe card.

It looks amazing. It reminded me to Sex in a Pan Dessert for some reason. Can I use other type of nuts? Maybe pecans?

      Thanks
