    Why This Recipe Works

Baked potatoes are the absolute perfect side dish because they are so easy to make. When you use an electric pressure cooker to make them, they are even quicker and easier! Instant Pot Sweet Potatoes are the best ever!

Everyone in my family loves sweet potatoes and they have been a favorite in our house for a couple years. We enjoy the flavor much more than that of a regular ol’ potato, so we cook them in varying ways a lot.

Making Instant Pot sweet potatoes is my new favorite way to make them because they just couldn’t be easier! As I’ve seen with the dozens of other Instant Pot recipes I’ve made recently, the pressure cooker creates consistently perfect and delicious food every time.

If you love baked sweet potatoes, this will be your new favorite recipe!

How To Make Instant Pot Sweet Potatoes

    STEP 1

Pour 1 1/2 cups water into the Instant Pot and place steamer basket or trivet in pot.

Using fork tines, poke holes around 3-4 large sweet potatoes and add them to the pot. Cut the potatoes in half crosswise, if needed.

    STEP 2

Place the cover on the pot and set timer to 15 minutes on high pressure (use the pressure cook setting). It will take the pot around 14 minutes to build up pressure before it begins cooking.

When cooking time is done, let the pressure release naturally. Remove the cover and serve with a pat of butter and spoonful of brown sugar!

    Recipe Notes

    • When serving this as a side, consider adding a pat of salted to the flesh. For an extra touch of sweetness, add a spoonful of brown sugar, too!
    • Be sure to scrub your potatoes well before cooking. The skin is edible and delicious!

How To Make Baked Sweet Potatoes in the Microwave

The only downfall to making potatoes is the wait! Don’t let this stop you from enjoying this perfect side dish. You can quickly and easily prepare a baked sweet potato recipe in the microwave.

    Yams vs Sweet Potatoes

I was confused for so many years after cutting into a sweet potato only to find white flesh. Was it really a sweet potato or was it a yam? It is rare to find an actual yam in a U.S. grocery store.

What you are seeing when you go to the store are two varieties of sweet potatoes. Crazy, right?!

What is labeled “yam” at the store is actually a sweet potato with brown skin and dark orange flesh. What is labeled “sweet potato” at the store is a sweet potato with lighter skin and also lighter flesh.

This variety is more firm in texture and not as fluffy when cooked. When you purchase sweet potatoes for this dish, you will want to purchase the “yam” variety! No more potato confusion, phew!

How Many Carbs in a Sweet Potato

There are approximately 25 g of carbohydrates in a 5-inch long sweet potato, making them about 10 g less than a regular potato of the same size.

How Many Calories in a Sweet Potato

There are approximately 110 calories in a 5-inch long sweet potato, making them about 50 calories less than a regular potato of the same size.

Are Sweet Potatoes Good For You

Sweet potatoes are VERY good for you and they are packed with nutrients and vitamins. They are high in fiber, antioxidants, vitamin C and magnesium. They are also low in calories and can contribute to having a healthy gut!

    Can Dogs Eat Sweet Potatoes

My dog is constantly underfoot when I am preparing food in the kitchen, so I am always curious which food are and are not ok for him to nibble on.

Cooked sweet potatoes are actually very gentle on digestive systems and they contain a lot of nutrients, making them safe for your pups to consume.

Why Does It Take My Instant Pot So Long To Pressurize

The time leading up to actual cook time may seem long and even confusing (“What is going ON in there?!”), but it’s an important part of the process! The Instant Pot is working on building up the appropriate amount of pressure that it will be cooking the food at.

It handles liquids and solids differently and also fresh and frozen differently, so the time can vary. Most recipes take between 10 and 25 minutes to build up pressure.

    Instant Pot Recipes

The list of recipes you can make in an Instant Pot is endless! It can act as a slow cooker, saute pan, steamer, rice maker, yogurt maker and pressure cooker.

It can cook soup, chili, pasta, meat, potatoes, veggies, cake, beans and so much more. Here are a few of my favorite Instant Pot recipes:

    • Chicken Breasts
