I have mentioned before that my husband and I are huge margarita lovers. He makes THE BEST margaritas I’ve ever tasted, hands down, and anyone who tries them agrees with me. His classic margarita recipe is incredible, but his grapefruit margaritas are a close second.

It is amazing how a bit of freshly squeezed citrus juice can transform a margarita into a heavenly, succulent and refreshing drink. Your first best option is to come over to our house so my cute hubby can make one of these irresistible beverages for you. Second best option? Make one yourself!

HOW TO MAKE THIS GRAPEFRUIT MARGARITA RECIPE

STEP 1

In a cocktail shaker, combine:

  • Ice cubes
  • Tequila
  • Grand Marnier
  • Fresh grapefruit juice
  • Fresh lime juice

STEP 2

Shake well and serve on the rocks or with no ice. Garnish with lime wedges, if desired.

RECIPES NOTES

  • If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, use two plastic cups that fit snugly opening to opening. We like to shake our margaritas to ensure the ingredients get mixed together thoroughly.
  • The tastiest orange liqueur to use for this drink is Grand Marnier, but Triple Sec and Cointreau work well, too.
  • Use crushed ice and salt-rimmed glasses for an extra fun and yummy drink.
  • This recipe will make enough for 1 perfect beverage, but feel free to quadruple the recipe to make a large pitcher to share!
  • Any variety of grapefruit tastes great for this yummy beverage, but pink grapefruit juice is our favorite.

WHAT IS THE BEST TEQUILA FOR MARGARITAS?

Choosing the best tequila for your margarita is super important. There are plenty of types of tequila that are top shelf and tasty on their own (or good in other drinks) but that do not taste the best in margaritas.

We recommend using a silver, blanco or white variety of tequila for optimal flavor. These types of tequila are transparent much like vodka and are bottled directly after being distilled, so they are either aged for a short period or not aged at all. Here is a list of our favorite tequilas, in order from most to least favorite (all of these work great!):

  • 1800 silver
  • Sauza silver
  • Sauza hornitos plata
  • Don Julio blanco
  • Jose Cuervo silver
