HOW TO MAKE EASY BAKED APPLES
Just a handful of ingredients creates an amazingly simple concoction of fall’s best fruit in a delicious dessert! Similar to apple crisp, this recipe shows off the delicious versatility of apples.
STEP 1
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and spray a 9×13 baking dish with cooking spray. Set aside. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg and mix well.
STEP 2
Remove cores from 6 medium apples using a paring knife or apple corer, starting at the stem. Leave 1/2 inch intact at the base of each apple. Place the cored apples in the prepared pan in a single layer.
STEP 3
Divide the filling evenly between the apples. Top each stuffed apple with 1 tablespoon butter. Sprinkle any extra sugar mixture over the tops.
Pour the water into the bottom of the baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until apples are tender but not mushy. Place apples in individual bowls for serving and spoon the brown sugar apple juice from the pan over the tops.
RECIPE NOTES
If you prefer, you can add more naturally sweet apples and reduce the amount of brown sugar you add. Other sugar substitutes that would be great are maple syrup, coconut sugar or stevia.
If you love nuts and the crunch they add, add a 1/4 cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts the mixture.
This treat is 100% gluten free, making it the perfect dessert for loved ones who are refraining from consuming wheat.
If you enjoy the spice in the baked apples, additional flavors you could add or exchange are ginger, cardamom or allspice.
Consider adding 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the brown sugar mixture for added flavor.
Spoon liquids from the dish over the tops because it has a little caramely flavor that comes from the juices and spices baking together.
If you are worried about the insides of the apples turning brown as you are coring the rest, squirt just a tiny bit of lemon juice into them to keep the flesh fresh and white.
It’s never wrong to make your own Salted Caramel Sauce to drizzle over your apples.
Top your apples with a scoop of Homemade Whipped Cream or vanilla ice cream!

WHEN TO EAT APPLES AND THEIR BENEFITS
Good news! The recommendation is that you enjoy an apple in the morning hours of each day. Apples are high in dietary fiber and pectin found in the peels of the apples. This will help you avoid poor digestion at night.
Fruit can help your stomach to empty more slowly, helping you to stay feeling full longer and not prone to snack/eat between meals.
