    Why This Recipe Works

My oldest son has a not-so secret love affair with mozzarella sticks and really anything that involves tons of gooey cheese. If they are on a menu? Or in our freezer? He immediately scopes them out, then requests that they show up in his belly pronto.

Typically I will throw frozen mozzarella sticks into the oven for him, but the other day I had a thought. Why not try to cook these in my Awesome Air Fryer? So I took a stroll through the frozen foods aisle at my local grocery store, threw a batch into my cart and went home to give it a try. Ps. It was a massive success.

Not only is it ridiculously, mindlessly EASY to toss them, totally frozen, into my trusty little cooking appliance. They also turn out perfectly crispy and golden brown with cheesy goodness. If you have an air fryer and love mozzarella sticks, give this cooking process a try!

    Recipe Ingredients

Frozen mozzarella sticks – It’s a miracle! Frozen cheese sticks is the only ingredient necessary, making this the easiest side dish or appetizer to prepare in the world. And you don’t even need to thaw them first! There are many different brands and any one of them will work great. Pull straight from the freezer!

How To Make Air Fryer Frozen Mozzarella Cheese Sticks

    Step 1

Place frozen uncooked mozzarella sticks in a single layer in the air fryer basket or inner pot of a pressure air fryer.

Cook at 375 degrees F for 3 minutes. Flip and cook for an additional 3 minutes.

    Step 2

When cooking time is up, use tongs or a spatula to remove hot mozzarella sticks from the air fryer. Serve alongside marinara sauce for dipping.

    Recipe Notes

    • For best results, add a little bit of olive oil before cooking. Use an oil sprayer to avoid using excess oil.
    • Throw leftover sticks in the fridge (stored in an airtight container or wrapped in aluminum foil) and reheat the next day in the microwave or in the air fryer for just a couple minutes.
    • Line them up in a single layer so that none are overlapping while they cook.
    • Be careful not to overcook these. When cooked for too long, the cheese will start seeping out of the breading (and honestly it isn’t the end of the world ending up with a batch of oozing, gooey mozzarella sticks).
    • Serve as a side dish or an easy appetizer at your next game day party or a quick snack at happy hour.
    • Air fryer cook times may vary by a few minutes.

    FAQ About Mozzarella Sticks

    What are mozzarella sticks?

Mozzarella sticks are coated in seasoned breadcrumbs, then deep fried until golden brown.

    Are mozzarella sticks healthy?

The cheese in breaded mozzarella sticks and the fact that they are deep fried contributes to the fact that they are not considered to be an option for a healthy diet. When looking for the healthiest option, check nutritional information labels for the least amount of calories and fat.

    Are mozzarella sticks keto?

Because of the bread crumbs that surrounds mozzarella sticks, they are typically very high in carbs NOT making them a good option for the keto diet.

What to dip mozzarella sticks in?

Marinara sauce is the most popular dipping option for mozzarella sticks. Other options include pizza sauce, pasta sauce, seasoned sour cream, ranch dressing or even bbq sauce.
