This fruity, refreshing and delicious Watermelon Martini screams summer. It is a delightful adult beverage that is easy to prepare and even easier to drink!
Here in Minnesota we have the pleasure of experiencing super cold winters as well as super hot summers. We definitely see the extreme ends of the seasons and it is one of the things I enjoy about living here. When we’re in the middle of summer, it is so nice to have a cool pool to jump into and a refreshing beverage to sip on when it is hot and humid outside.
I’m grateful to have a husband who enjoys putting together an occasional summer cocktail for me that somehow satisfies my summer taste buds. This watermelon cocktail is one that he made for me years ago and we recently decided to revive it and give it a bit of a facelift. It is the perfect summer drink! It is super easy to throw together and even easier to sip on.
HOW TO MAKE A WATERMELON MARTINI
Start with the following ingredients:
- 3 ice cubes
- 1.5 oz. vodka
- 1.5 oz. watermelon vodka liqueur
- juice from half of a lime
- 1/4 cups watermelon juice
Add vodkas, watermelon juice and lime juice to a cocktail shaker along with 3 ice cubes. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds and divide between 2 martini glasses.
Top each glass with a splash of Sprite or 7up, as well as a splash of ruby red grapefruit juice (optional). Garnish with lime wedges and watermelon chunks.
RECIPE NOTES
Both sugar and salt taste great on the rim of your chilled martini glass.
If you have extra watermelon, freeze it! Frozen watermelon is a great summer snack. It can also act as an ice cube to chill any beverage.
Make your own simple syrup by combining sugar and water OR make a honey simple syrup!
CAN DOGS EAT WATERMELON
Yes, dogs can eat watermelon, as long as they do not consume the rind. Also, too many watermelon seeds can cause stomach issues, so be aware of that.

Slice down the center, cutting the melon in half lengthwise.
Cut each half in half lengthwise, creating quarters.
Slice each watermelon quarter into triangle slices.

HOW TO SELECT A PERFECTLY RIPE LIME
I have limes on hand all the time because their delicious juice goes great with so many different foods. When selecting limes at the grocery store, look for these attributes to make sure you are getting the juiciest, ripest ones:
First, smell the lime. Go ahead, put it right up to your nose and smell for a strong limey scent. The stronger the scent of lime, the riper the fruit will be.
The darker green limes are typically riper and juicier, as well. The exception to this is if you are purchasing key limes. Key limes are smaller in size and have a more concentrated flavor and are typically used to make key lime pie or key lime cookies. With key limes, a yellow color indicates ripeness instead of a green color.
The heavier the lime feels in your hands, the more juice is hiding inside!
Gently squeeze the lime in your hands. The more give a lime has, the juicier it’ll be. If it is too squishy it may be past its prime, so be sure it doesn’t give too much.
