Why This Recipe Works
We recently saw this video floating around the internet and grew intrigued. Pickles on pizza? Really?! I love pickles and I love pizza, so we decided to test it out. We threw our own pickle pizza recipe together in my kitchen and ended up LOVING IT.
Two days later I made another one because I couldn’t stop thinking about pickles and pizza, all dancing around together. This dill pickle pizza recipe is insanely delicious and I promise you will not want to stop eating once you take your first succulent bite.
If you are feeling unsure, I get it. I fully understand how this recipe could be controversial, but I’m begging you to try it. Oh, and if you’re a massive pickle lover like I am, you also have to try these famous Pickle Rollups! This Dill Pickle Pasta Salad and my Pickle Relish are both pretty darn good, too.
Recipe Ingredients
Pickles – Dill pickles work best for this recipe, but sweet pickles taste great, too!
Pizza dough – The quickest and easiest thing to do is to buy frozen pizza dough (1 pound) and let it thaw in the fridge overnight in a covered bowl. When you are ready to make your pizza, roll the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and into the shape of your pizza pan.
Another easy option is to make your own no yeast pizza dough recipe which turns into the most perfect pizza crust you will ever set your lips on.
Cheese – The best kinds of cheese to use on homemade pizza are mozzarella, provolone and sharp cheddar.
Garlic – If you do not have fresh garlic on hand, replace with a thin layer of garlic powder.
Dill – Fresh dill adds the absolute perfect flavor, so go fresh when you can. Dried dill tastes great, too.
How To Make Pickle Pizza
Step 1
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and lightly coat a 12- or 13-inch round pizza pan with non stick spray OR pull out your favorite pizza stone. Roll the pizza dough out into a circle on a lightly floured work surface. Transfer to the prepared pan, folding the dough over at the edges.
Spread the olive oil in an even layer over the dough and sprinkle the minced garlic evenly over the top. Sprinkle your shredded cheese over the oil and garlic. Top with an even layer of dill pickle slices, followed by dill, salt and pepper.
Step 2
Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until crust is lightly golden brown. Cut into slices and serve!
Recipe Notes
- If you don’t have a round pizza pan, use a large baking sheet instead.
- A sprinkling of Italian seasoning over the oil and garlic would taste great!
- Baking time for pizzas will vary by a bit, so use your oven light and start peeking in around the 15-minute mark. The crust will be a golden brown color when the pizza is done and the cheese will be melted uniformly all over the surface.
- Top with a thin layer of Parmesan cheese for an extra punch of flavor!
- Store in the fridge wrapped in foil or plastic wrap for up to 3 days.
Where is the Pizza Sauce?
There is no traditional pizza sauce in this recipe! The sauce is replaced with an olive oil and garlic dill sauce, which complement the pickles to perfection!

FAQ About Pizza
There are definitely exceptions to this rule, but most pizza recipes are considered to be high in calories, fat and sodium. They are typically made with processed ingredients, as well, and contain preservatives and a good deal of sugar.
Domino’s remains top-rated pizza brand among Americans. Other contenders: Pizza Hut, Little Caesar’s and Papa John’s.
When pizza dough is tossed in the air, the person doing the tossing uses circular hand motions which creates a naturally elongated circular shape. Tossing dough is the best way to achieve a uniform base, so the circle it is.
Pizza is made using these simple steps: Make dough and shape to form pan you’re using (turn outer ridge over to hold in sauce and toppings). Apply an even layer of the sauce over the top. Add toppings of choice (cooked meats, sliced veggies, etc). Sprinkle a generous helping of shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese over the toppings. Bake in a 425-degree oven for 12-15 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.
Pizza can be reheated and eaten up to 3 days after baking it. Reheat in the oven, in a skillet, in an air fryer or in the microwave until warmed through.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture advises not to let pizza sit at room temperature for more than 2 hours before discarding it. If pizza has been left out overnight, it is not safe for consumption the next day.
What To Serve With Pizza
Pizza is great solo but if you are looking for a little something to serve on the side, go with a simple salad such as this Chopped Salad. Breadsticks are also a great pizza side, served with a marinara sauce or butter garlic sauce. Garlic Bread is always a great option to serve alongside pizza.
If you love dipping your pizza in extra deliciousness, consider serving with a side of ranch dressing, alfredo sauce, hot sauce or creamy garlic sauce.

Thank you for catching that, Debra – it’s been updated. The step by step pictures were there and I’m sure whether you add your cheese over the oil or over the toppings as many people enjoy it, it’d still be delicious.
