Milk – I use skim, but literally any variety will work.
Eggs – No need to be at room temperature.
Seasoned breadcrumbs – Or your favorite variety. You can also season regular crumbs.
Parmesan cheese – Grated works best, but shredded adds a fun touch.
Dill pickle spears – Be sure to pat each pickle spear down thoroughly with paper towels to remove all moisture before dipping and baking. This is super important!

Recipe Notes & Tips
- Use any variety of milk from skim to whole.
- Use a plant-based milk and omit the parmesan or use a vegan version if you have dairy allergies.
- Use large, shallow bowls or pie plates that will accommodate the size of the pickles for best breading.
- You can also make this recipe with dill pickle chips. Cook time may be different.
- You might have extra breadcrumbs and egg mixture. If so, throw a second batch together if you have extra pickle spears!
- You can make these in the Air fryer. Cook them at 400 degrees for 8 minutes, flip, then cook for another 3-5 minutes until crisp and golden brown. If you are using this cooking method, place them in a single layer and don’t overcrowd them. Cook them in a couple small batches if necessary.
What Are Dill Pickle Fries?
Pickle fries. Or fried pickles, are breaded pickles that are usually deep fried in hot oil to a crispy, golden brown perfection. But you don’t have to deep fry them. Baking or air frying them is also a great way to make them without all the oil but with all the same great taste.
Crispy dill pickle fries are a salty and savory treat that can be served as anything from a delicious dinner side, movie or game night snack, or the perfect appetizer or party finger food.
How Do You Get Breading To Stick To Pickle Fries
- Dry pickles very very well first before breading them.
- Coat the dry pickles fully in the egg batter and quickly move them to the bread crumbs
- Press the pickles lightly but firmly into the breadcrumb mixture to ensure they are fully coated
- Place fries gently on the baking sheet so they don’t lose their breading
Different Types of Breadcrumbs To Use
You can use any type of breadcrumbs for your breading. I like to use seasoned bread crumbs. If you only have regular breadcrumbs, that’s fine. You can use as is or add some Italian seasoning and other spices like onion powder and garlic powder to them to add extra flavor.
How to Serve Fried Dill Pickles
These Dill Pickle Fries are a great side to all sorts of easy dinner options from Hamburgers to
Chili Dogs or Macaroni and Cheese, and the hint of dill is simply amazing with Pork Chops or Pulled Pork Sandwiches.

How to Store Leftover Fried Pickles
Allow the pickles to cool completely to room temperature before storing. This will help prevent condensation from forming and turning your perfectly crispy pickles to a sad and soggy spear.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
How to Reheat Fried Dill Pickles
Reheat leftover breaded pickles in the oven or the air fryer to maintain their crispiness.
In the Oven – Reheat the leftover pickles in a heated 375° oven for 7-10 minutes until crispy again.
In the Air Fryer – Reheat in the airfryer at 350 for 7-10 minutes until crispy
